About Simon, originator and author

Welcome to Vinyl Records World.

I am Simon and I have my childhood and teenage years to thank for my collection of (mostly) 7″ singles on vinyl. These little plastic discs were the way to my feeding my thirst for the very best pop music that was available to buy.

I built up my collection over ten years…

Growing up in the eighties, we had no CDs, and we certainly had no streaming or downloading services available to us. Listening to the radio was streaming of a sort, but you couldn’t choose what you listened to and you certainly couldn’t keep it, well not without a cassette recorder.

That’s where vinyl records came in. That’s how my parents listened to their music too. Our generations were certainly much more homogenous than say, mine and my children’s.

If you don’t remember or even if you never knew, you could buy a vinyl copy, a 7″ diameter, plastic disc of the track that had caught your ear in the chart run down that weekend. If you were flush, you could go out and buy the album – a 12″ diameter vinyl disc to take home and listen to over and over…

I am on a mission to share my music, demonstrate my passion for vinyl, and encourage you to do the same

When you tell the kids about buying music on vinyl, they look at you as if you have suddenly sprouted another head. Why couldn’t you just download it, or listen on Spotify?

Good question, good question. You just couldn’t. Music was a physical thing in more ways than one.

More than anything else though, music played on vinyl has a warmth and richness that the cold, clinical nature of CD music or streamed or downloaded music.

I desire to see the return to buying music on vinyl

I hope my enthusiasm for vinyl will rub off on you. I hope you will be infected by the joys of holding a vinyl album in your hands, removing it from first the outer cover and then the inner sleeve before and spinning it around between your fingers. I hope you will discover the joy of poring over an album’s sleeve and the artist’s notes. More than anything, I hope you will delight in putting it on the turntable and hearing the mellifluous tones that fill the room as the music begins.

If you ever need a hand or have any questions, feel free to leave them below and I will be more than happy to help you out.

All the best,

Simon
